Acknowledgment
An acknowledgment is a common type of notarization used when a signer needs to confirm that they signed a document willingly and that the signature is their own. The signer must personally appear before the notary and provide satisfactory identification.
Commonly used for: Powers of Attorney, deeds, trusts, estate documents, and other important legal or financial documents.
The notary verifies the signer’s identity and completes the notarial certificate but does not provide legal advice or determine whether the document is legally valid.
Jurat
A Jurat is a type of notarization where the signer signs the document in the presence of the notary and takes an oath or affirmation stating that the information in the document is true.
The signer must personally appear before the notary and complete the required oath or affirmation.
Please Bring Valid Identification
A current, acceptable form of identification is generally required for notarization, such as a California driver’s license, state-issued ID, or other acceptable identification under California notary law.
Commonly used for: affidavits, sworn statements, and other documents requiring the signer to swear or affirm that the contents are true.
Please do not sign a document requiring a Jurat before your appointment—the signature must be completed in the presence of the notary.
IMPORTANT — VALID IDENTIFICATION REQUIRED
All signers must provide acceptable identification at the time of the appointment.
Please have a current, valid government-issued photo ID available, such as a driver’s license or state identification card.
No acceptable ID? Please contact Shannon before booking your appointment. In certain circumstances, California law may allow identity to be established through a credible witness or witnesses who meet the required qualifications.
